How we work
Last updated October 29, 2026
This page explains how a story gets from a filing, announcement or report onto The Signal Edition, and the checks it has to pass on the way.
1. Finding the story
We follow company newsrooms and investor releases, SEC filings, regulators such as the FTC, SEC and FCC, government data releases, security advisories from CISA and vendors, and the business and technology press. A story is worth covering when something has actually happened: a filing, a result, a ruling, a confirmed incident, a launch or a policy change.
2. Sourcing
Every news article is built from at least two independent, relevant sources. Several outlets repeating one original report count as one source. Where a primary document exists, such as a filing, a court order or an official statement, we use it. Each paragraph shows which sources support it, and the full list is at the end of the article.
3. Checking
- Names, dates, quotations and figures are checked against the sources before publication.
- Numbers we calculate ourselves, such as growth rates, shares and comparisons, are computed directly from the source data, and the article shows what they are based on.
- Sources must be current and about the event itself. Old pages, copies of other outlets' articles and unrelated pages are not used.
- Anything that is disputed, unknown or not yet confirmed is described that way, or left out.
4. Adding something
We do not republish other outlets' stories. Each article adds context: why the development matters, the numbers that put it in proportion, how it connects to earlier events, and what happens next.
5. Data pages and tools
Trackers and calculators are built from official data, such as SEC filings and government statistics. Each one shows its source and when it was last updated. If a source is delayed or changes, the page says so rather than showing stale or estimated numbers.
6. Images
We use images that are freely licensed, in the public domain, or provided by companies and agencies for press use, and every image is credited.
7. Updates and corrections
When a story develops we update the existing article and show the update time next to the original publication time. Material errors are corrected in the article and listed on our corrections page. To report an error, email hello@thesignaledition.com.
8. Independence
Advertising does not influence what we cover or how. We do not accept payment for coverage, and we do not give investment advice.
